Frozen Fury X - Kings vs Avs 9/22/07

10th Annual NHL Frozen Fury, pre-season NHL game at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Like last year, it was rigged and LA Kings won in a shootout... :(

  1. I assume they don't allow betting on this game, since it takes place within Nevada?

  2. sure you can. don't you think there is betting on all the boxing that goes on in LV?

  3. I remember when the NBA All-Star game was held in Las Vegas in February, no wagering on the game was allowed.

I tracked down an article that goes into further detail

If Las Vegas is to land a full-time franchise, an arena must be built and the betting issue must be settled.

One potential compromise could be to book all NBA games except those involving the Las Vegas team. So if Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers were in town to play the Las Vegas Oscars, there would be no wagering action allowed.

  4. They are building an arena downtown right now and the hopes are Jerry Bruckheimer will buy an NHL franchise at the next expansion and LV may have NHL hockey by 2010 (fingers crossed).

I personally don't get the issue with betting if a sport is played in LV. As long as people affiliated with the game don't bet (and people affiliated with games played anywhere have this same restriction), then what is the issue of betting on an event that is in LV vs anywhere else?

  5. A primary issue has been that the ownership of the Sacramento Kings---the Maloofs---also own the Palms Casino Resort. Any time the Kings play, the sports book at The Palms can't carry the game.
