at the tops of the buildings, on the outisde, they have a hook and pulley set up. They would use a pulley to get the furniture up. They still do, we watched a person use this system to bring a chair up.
These are all really great pix. It's hard to pic just one fav, but the ones of the canal are beautiful. It looks so clean and serene and the architecture is quite lovely.
I went to Amsterdam for a conference a couple of years ago and fell in love. In fact, I think I'd move there if it wasn't for the weather. I loved all the bikes everywhere!
I love Amsterdam. Your pictures brought back many nice memories. I plan to get back there for a weekend sometime in the spring or summer. I have a question. The Rembrandt paintings...were they in the Rijksmuseum or in Rembrandt House? Did you go to Rembrandt House? I've never been there and wondered if it was worth doing. I heard that there were some doodles on some of the walls that were made by him (and maybe his son?) and I thought that sounded fun.
We saw Rembrandt's mostly at the Rijksmuseum (there were also a few at the Van Gogh museum). We didn't go to the Rembrandt house (although we walked by it) so I couldn't tell you anything about that. Sorry.
Great pics! You really capture everything beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThese are fabulous pics. I loved seeing the architecture of the city. And the Canal is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBTW, how on Earth did they manage getting furniture up those stairs?
interesting you should ask.

I think this might have to be our new Mac Addicts logo

ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Beautiful clean city.
ReplyDeleteLoved your journal.
yeah, we were so geeky when we saw it and had to take pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe city looks beautiful! I see everyone's wearing sweaters...what kind of temps did you have?
ReplyDeleteAHH...It's the famous Leaning Lamp post of Amsterdam.
ReplyDeletewe watched this, too. The atairs there are very steep with very small steps. I remember having to even step sideways.
ReplyDeleteAmsterdam is a very unusual place. Did you see Anne Frank's hiding place. That was so sad. Everyone came out so quiet.
about 55-66 F during the day (but breezy) and 40's-50's at night.

ReplyDeleteHow did you find an apartment to rent?
How did you get your drunk selves up those stairs?!?
ReplyDelete....or did you use the pulley?
LOL, um, crawled.
ReplyDeleteI just returned from a trip to Amsterdam about two weeks ago. Now I keep dreaming about it! LOL. Must. Go. Back.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking the same thing. Definitely gonna visit there again!

ReplyDeleteI definitely want to go back!! So cute there....
I think I was there about 15 years ago - above the Leeuw Bier is a pool hall.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Amsterdam, I stayed a little farther off the beaten path; I was next to Vondel Park. Visited in March, so it was not so green.
ReplyDeleteTHE BULLDOG!! LOL I still have a hemp bag with the BDog logo.
