Foo Fighters, 9:30 Club, 10/16/05

The Foo Fighters took a night off their tour to play a surprise show at a local venue in DC. The 9:30 Club, which Grohl has played many times (and grew up watching shows here) holds about 1500 people. The show was completely different then their current arena tour show. They took the stage at 11:15 pm and left the stage at 1:45 am. For at least the first hour, they went from song to song with very little break between. Grohl started the show off by saying "we are going to play as much music as we can for the next two hours".

Then the Jaigermeister shots started (not me, the Foo Fighters) and the set list went out the window. I think Taylor said it best at one point "tonight we are like a f'in bar band". Between songs they would decide what song to play next, at times reminding each other what the chords were. They played songs from all of their albums. They played all their hits, but also played a ton of 'deep' tracks. They just were having fun. It seemed like they didn't want the night to end, just playing song after song until finally the club was closing. Grohl even offered to do a shot with everyone in attendance. It was an intimate setting, all 1500 of us and the Foo Fighters, rocked the night away.

It was an amazing night and those in attendance knew they were seeing something special. Dave Grohl is still my boyfriend. Some video posted!

Special thank you to Ballard for hooking me up with this event!

  1. He joked during the last song, when his shirt was off, that this would be the last time he would play without a shirt. He said "I am 36, I am getting too old for this s**t!".

  2. I can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am! This sounds like one of those once-in-a-lifetime things that you will remember for a long time. Thanks for documenting it for us!
