I know from previous Multiply posts, most of you no longer care about hockey. I however still do (although it is hard when Anaheim wins the Cup over Ottawa)... but anyway- article again raising possibility of NHL expansion team coming to Vegas. Fingers crossed....

  1. When I lived in Houston, there were talks of Edmonton moving to Houston, and I was quite excited (all they had were the Houston Aeros from the IHL or the AHL I think). I was very excited, but then they ended up staying (I was happy for the Edmonton fans for that one, besides we had already lost one Houston Oilers team, it seemed funny to get a new one in :), and then Nashville got the expansion team instead of Houston.

I know how you feel! I hope you guys get one!!

  2. Why not? They already have hockey in assinine places and the past three winners of the most revered trophy in sports has gone to Tampa, Raleigh and Anaheim.

I am a die-hard hockey fan and I am almost done caring...how about Tulsa, Okla., Elko, Nev. and Mexico City? Those appear like great venues for the NHL, too.

  3. An expansion team? Why not move one of the teams that doesn't draw a lot of fans? Seems to me like focusing on the successful franchises and trying to fix the less successful ones (by moving if you have to) is a better strategy than just adding more teams to the mix.

  4. I think that's harder to actually pull off. The few fans that are left really, really, REALLY don't like to let them go. That's what happened in Edmonton in the mid to late '90's. There seems to be less resistance to just expanding.

  5. There were talks for a while about Penquins moving to Vegas, but I guess Pittsburgh figured out their money woes and aren't on the market anymore. As a Washington fan, it would have been hard to root for my new home team, the former Caps rivals...
